How to use ChatGPT agent mode to build forms and surveys
Forms and surveys are only a means to an end, in the end we're all looking for those juicy insights and data. So if you can automate most of the survey-building process ... why wouldn't you ?
In this article we show you how to build web forms and surveys on autopilot using ChatGPT agent mode. Moreover, we'll compare ChatGPT agent mode and the use of a custom GPT when it comes to speed and overall output. Oh, and for those of you that don't like reading. We also condensed everything into a handy YouTube video!
TL;DR: ChatGPT agent mode is more than capable of building a Google Form on its own, but it's ten times slower than using a custom GPT like Weavely.ai's.
What is ChatGPT agent mode
Think of ChatGPT agent mode as the "get sh*t done" mode. Instead of having ChatGPT reply to your prompts with advice and actions in the form of text, it now actually goes out into the world (wide web) and performs actions on your behalf.
For example, you can give ChatGPT the crucial tasks of finding the correct "The Office" meme for you in order to stun your colleagues on Slack:
"I need a spicy "the office" meme, I want it in gif format. Find the spiciest meme and paste me the link."
As you can see below, it takes a while but our little ai assistant searches for relevant memes first and then goes out to find the gif variant and returns it to us.

Interestingly, it went for the meme below. Not the most famous one, but in our books any meme featuring Michael Scott is spicy!

Anyway, back to the more serious business of creating effective forms in ChatGPT. Agent mode is sufficiently "intelligent" to navigate to your favourite form-building tool (e.g. Google Forms), figure out the interface, and build a form or survey to ask the questions you need answers to! It’s even smart enough to handle the boring part: filling forms. But that's the topic for another blog post!
How to build a Google Form in ChatGPT agent mode
This is probably going to be one of the shortest tutorials on forms you've ever read. To have a ChatGPT agent build a Google Form for you there's essentially three steps.
Step 1: the initial prompt
No crazy prompt engineering needed here, just toggle ChatGPT agent mode and tell it what questions need to be included in your form. For example:
“Create a Google Form titled ‘The Ultimate Pizza Preference Survey’ with 5 funny but insightful questions to settle the office pizza debates once and for all. Include questions about pineapple as a topping, ideal crust thickness, and how much cheese is ‘too much cheese’ (if that even exists).”

Step 2: authenticating
ChatGPT agent can do a lot, but it isn't 100% dark magic either. Once it navigates to Google Forms it will ask you to "take over" (i.e. take manual control over its browsing session) in order to authenticate yourself with Google.

Once you've filled in your credentials you can give control back to ChatGPT agent. If you're anything like us you'll only be slightly unnerved by the fact that an artificial intelligence will now be building things in your name.
Step 3: sit back and pretend you're working
This is the easiest step, you don't even need to press a single key! Once authenticated ChatGPT agent will figure out everything on its own. How to create a new form, how to add questions and pick the right question type. Once it's done building the form it will even publish it and return you the link you can share with respondents in order to start collecting data.

How to build a form or survey in ChatGPT using Weavely.ai's custom GPT
Don't get us wrong, agent mode is cool and all. But it can be painstakingly slow, and every once in a while it circles around in loops because some page refuses to load inside its sandboxed browser environment. However, there's a second method that allows you to build forms and surveys from the comfort of ChatGPT.
The Weavely.ai custom GPT builds Google Forms-like surveys from within your ChatGPT conversation, at a fraction of the time it takes agent mode to do the same. As a bonus, Weavely.ai offers editable themes, conditional logic and a whole bunch of other more advanced features compared to Google Forms. Here's two simple steps to get started with this method:
Step 1: start a conversation with the custom GPT
Head over to the "GPT" section, search for "Weavely Forms & Surveys" and start a conversation.

You can use the custom GPT to brainstorm the design of your form (e.g. which questions to ask, the type of questions, etc.). Once you're satisfied you simply ask it to build the form. In the background the custom GPT will talk directly with Weavely.ai's backend and build the working form for you. Within a couple of seconds you'll get a link pasted in the conversation which leads you to step 2.
Step 2 (Optional): further customize your form
Once you click the link from step 1 you'll be redirected to Weavely.ai's editor. From here you can either immediately publish your form. Alternatively you can also further fine-tune your form: pick one of Weavely's customizable themes, add conditional logic or set up integrations with third-party tools (e.g. Google Sheets, Salesforce, Hubspot, Notion, etc.).
Weavely also offers you the necessary data analysis features once you've managed to gather enough response data. These features range from easily exporting answers to other tools, to real-time charts and graphs and even advanced analyses through AI reports.
Comparing ChatGPT agent mode and Weavely.ai's custom GPT
We put both approaches to the test so you don’t have to. On one side, you’ve got ChatGPT agent mode using Google Forms. Capable, but a little like sending your order through three different waiters before the chef starts cooking. On the other side, Weavely.ai’s custom GPT. Direct, quick, and with a premium finish baked in.
The table below breaks it down: how long it takes, how much setup is involved, and what kind of extras you can expect. Whether you care about speed, branding, advanced logic, or in-depth analysis, you’ll see exactly where each option shines. Granted, we're a bit biased but by all means try both options for yourselves!
Custom surveys, built with AI
At the end of the day, forms and surveys are just a tool to get to what really matters: insights and better data. If you can cut down the time it takes to build them, why wouldn't you? ChatGPT Agent Mode shows it can handle the process from start to finish, but it comes with delays, extra steps, and the occasional hiccup.
Weavely.ai’s Custom GPT removes that friction. You can go from a rough idea to a fully functional, branded form in seconds, complete with advanced features like conditional logic, integrations, and built-in data analysis. Whether you’re building a quick feedback form, a detailed customer feedback survey, or a branded market research form, it’s faster, smoother, and ready to use immediately.
Frequently Asked Questions About Building Forms & Surveys in ChatGPT
How do I build a Google Form in ChatGPT agent mode?
In Agent Mode, ChatGPT can navigate to Google Forms, create your questions, and send you a live link. All without you manually opening Google Forms. The trade-off? It can be slower and requires you to log in and give permissions during the process.
What's the difference between ChatGPT agent mode and Weavely.ai custom GPT?
Agent Mode is versatile but slower and more prone to hiccups when loading or interacting with web pages. Weavely.ai’s Custom GPT works directly inside ChatGPT, generating a live, editable form link in seconds and giving you advanced features like branding, conditional logic, and integrations.
Can ChatGPT help with filling forms automatically?
Yes, ChatGPT agent mode can handle repetitive tasks like filling forms, provided it has the necessary access. But in our testing, its real strength lies in creating forms that others will fill out. For example with Weavely.ai's custom GPT.
Can I customise forms I build in ChatGPT?
With Google Forms via Agent Mode, you’re limited to Google’s default styling and logic. With Weavely.ai’s Custom GPT, you can fully brand your form, add advanced logic like answer piping, and integrate with tools like Google Sheets, HubSpot, or Notion.
Is there a free way to build forms in ChatGPT?
Yes, Weavely.ai's custom GPT is available in the free tier of ChatGPT and allows you to build unlimited forms (with unlimited responses) for free.
Which ChatGPT method should I use for building forms?
If you’re alright with a bit more friction and use Google Forms already, Agent Mode works. But if you value speed, polish, and extra features, Weavely.ai’s Custom GPT is the smarter, faster bet.
